Lake Powell lies at the North Arizona/South Utah state line and is a man made lake created by the Glen Canyon Dam which was completed in 1963. The lake itself took 17 years to fill. Lake Powell is named after John Wesley Powell who led a scientific exploration of The Grand Canyon in 1869. The shimmering crystal waters against the red/orange sandstone of the desert is a sight to behold.
