MONUMENT VALLEY

We all know Monument Valley from the old Western movies with John Wayne always the hero and the cavalry arriving to save the day chasing the Indians into the distance. Although many movies were filmed in Monument Valley the reality is, once filming was over the movie sets were removed and the Indians moved back into their land.

50 million years of wind and water erosion have sculpted Monument Valley into what we see today. Go there, feel the wind on your face or see the rain clouds and you will know that this process is still going on and will never end.

The Valley lies within The Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. Although native people have lived in this land for countless years the area was thought to be useless by the "white man" and so was "given" to the Navajo people.

The tribes that live here try to preserve as much of the old way of life as possible but they do know the value of what is on their doorstep and sell hand made jewelry and other souvenirs as well as Jeep tours of the area.
