Route 66

also known as

Main Street America and The Mother Road

Starts in Chicago ( Illinois ) and ends in Santa Monica ( California ) and covers a distance of 2,448 miles ( 3,939 Kilometers) It crosses 8 states and 3 time zones. Route 66 was commissioned in 1926 and at that time only 800 miles were paved.

Route 66 is no longer shown on any modern maps as it has been replaced by the Interstate system. Only parts of the original road now exist and are mostly marked with Historical Route 66 road signs.

I arrived at Kingman Arizona about midday and decided to spend the rest of the day just resting. I found a good steak restaurant, swam in the motel pool then slept.

In the morning (feeling refreshed) I got in my car, my plan was to take I 40 (Interstate route 40) on my way to The Grand Canyon. I saw a sign saying Route 66, of course I had heard of Route 66, it's glory days it's demise and of course the song, so I thought I have GOT to drive some of this road. I soon came upon the town of Peach Springs a small town that seemed to be trapped in some bygone era.
