This day we decided to go to The Isle Of Skye and we took the long road to get there. the weather was not particularly nice and it was to get much worse as the day went by. Still we were doing what we had set out to do, if we got a few pictures THAT was the bonus.

Ratigan

We had passed Eilean Donnan Castle with a view to returning to take pictures. Peter had been to this place before a few years before and had told me of the magnificent views of Loch Duich and the mountains. Now though the trees were much higher and the weather was affy dreach, so the views were very limited.

We headed onward toward the Glenelg Ferry and the Isle Of Skye

The Kylerhea Narrows

The shortest point between mainland Scotland and The Isle Of Skye

The GlenElg Ferry

There has been a crossing here for many centuries. For more information visit...

You will see that this is the same little ferry boat that I talked about at Ballacullish on Loch Leven

The following pictures are from 'The Road To The Isles' The A830 from Fort William to Mallaig taken in July 2008

Sunshine and Showers

Loch Sheil at Glennfinnan

If you look closely you will see the raindrops falling, at the same time the sun is shining on the flowers and the trees on the island.

Looking down Loch Shiel from Glenfinnan.

In this picture you can see the Glenfinnan Monument to Bonnie Prince Charlie.

It was at this place on the 19th August 1745 that Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) started his campaign against the English King (George II) that ended months later with the slaughter of the Scottish forces at Culloden and brought about the end of the Scottish way of life under the oppression of the English Crown. During the campaign, Charles and his army had moved as far south as Derby before turning back. Unknown to him at the time, had he carried on to London would most likely have taken the city and the Crown as the King was already packing to leave in fear of the Scottish invasion.

The Railway Viaduct at Glenfinnan

Reputedly the most picturesque railway in Britain, some would say the world. There are often steam trains along this line. I'd advise that you pre-book your seat.

Sunset looking to the Isle Of Skye

This picture taken at one of the campsites just past Arisaig, close to Bunacaimb.
