Another Wee Hoos

The contrast of these little white cottages against the rugged mountains and colour of the landscape is undeniably attractive. Sometimes the sunlight can just catch the little cottages and really make them stand out.

Although this was still very early into our holiday (vacation), it was around this time that Pete and I realized what we had got ourselves into. This was to be no touristy fly by taking pictures from the car window or from a lay by..... We were getting out of the car at every opportunity and walking, scrambling, climbing or whatever it took to get us to wherever we needed to get the picture we wanted. But I have to add we were not equipped for any serious hiking or climbing, and we knew our limits.

The Lonely Road

The road leading down and into Glen Coe. Actually it was far from lonely, it took a long time to get a big enough gap in the traffic to take this picture.

Scottish: It was Affy Dreach and we could'ny take a picture.

English: We were not having much luck with the weather at this time and as we passed on through Glen Coe it really closed in making photography there just about impossible.

Loch Leven

Looking over Loch Leven toward Glen Coe

Loch Leven

Looking toward Ballacullish.

Many years ago, there was a small ferry here that would take a few cars at a time to save the long journey around the loch but that has long since been replaced by a bridge, now while some bridges can look good in a picture, this one doesn't and so is it difficult to get a picture looking over to Ballacullish without the bridge.

Here is a little story for you..... I have a very good friend called Ian and for the longest time in his house was a picture of the Ballacullish Ferry taken long before the bridge. The picture was taken from from the north shore with a cherry tree in blossom in the foreground, the ferry with a few cars on it and of course the tree covered mountains in the background. He had bought the picture in Birkenhead (England) soon after a trip to Scotland with his dad where they had gone over Loch Leven on the ferry. Well as soon as I seen the picture, I fell in love with it, in fact that picture probably had a lot to do with me getting into photography and appreciating the beauty of the scenery wherever I go. When Ian's dad passed away, Ian gave the picture to me and I am sorry to say that with all the changes in my life, it has been lost. Well soon after crossing the bridge with Peter and taking these pictures, Pete took me with him to visit a friend of his in Fort William and on the wall of the living room was exactly the same picture, with the cherry blossom, the old ferry and the tree covered mountains.
