Walking in the Tartan

No matter how dull and dreary the weather might be, there is always something in this landscape that will catch your eye.

Peter on the lookout for another Big Jaggy Hill.
Another Big Jaggy Hill

Peter has this thing for Big Jaggy Hills so we climbed a Big Jaggy Hill to get a picture of Another Big Jaggy Hill

Tarbet

We had driven down a road to the little village of Tarbet. You can see the locals tied everything down including the rocks because there were a couple of scousers around.

The Old Man Of Stoer from Tarbet

This picture is taken with a zoom lens, so don't go there expecting to see the Old Man this close.

The Old Man Of Stoer

The old man is a 197 feet (60 metre) high sandstone stack.

These pictures are from January 2008

Stoer Lighthouse

Scattered on the ground around the lighthouse and among the Ewe Doo are stones about golf ball size. Just like at Dunnett Head the stones are thrown from the sea during stormy weather.

All along this road there are magnificent views like this

On turning a corner Peter noticed Deer so he pulled the car over and I jumped out with the camera and managed to catch this picture only to find I was at the end of the roll of film.

It became clear that the deer were not about to run off so Peter started taking pictures and I re-loaded my camera.

We continued to take pictures of the first Stag and found there was another nearby. Then Peter tapped me on the shoulder and indicated for me to look around and there was this magnificent fellow behind us. So there were three Stags here each with their group of females and we could hear another but could not see him. The pictures that we took did not all turn out the way we had hoped but the experience of being there and seeing these magnificent creatures in the wild will be with us forever.

The Monarch Of The Glen

By Peter Rowe

These pictures taken Winter 2008

Very close to the summer pictures location. This time we had split, Peter was getting pictures of the Kylesku Bridge and I wasn't having much success getting pictures of the Assynt Mountains but I did come across these Stags and went to get Pete. These are just two of the pictures I took.

This image was captured right out of the car window. Not bad for a phone camera.
