Parkgate on the River Dee Until early in the 19th century this was a major port. As the river silted up and ships became larger it was used less and Liverpool became the major port in the north west of England. The Marshland that is now here is a bird sanctuary. The first picture below shows Parkgate as it usually is. The pictures with water up to what was once the sea wall are quite rare. The water only reaches this far with an especially high spring tide.
